Three African Cities

The line graph shows information about the average monthly temperatures in three African cities, Mombasa, Cairo and Cape Town.

The hottest place shown on the graph is Cairo. In July and August, average temperatures rise to over 80 Fahrenheit. However, Cairo also has biggest variation in climate, being both the hottest and coldest place shown in the graph. Temperatures drop to as low as 55 degrees in Cairo’s winter, during January and February. This is equal to Cap-Town’s lowest temperature in July. Actually, Cairo and Cap-Town are almost opposites in temperature. Cairo is hottest when Cap Town is coldest. Cap-Town does not have the range that Cairo has. Its maximum temperature is 70 Fahrenheit from November to February. After which it drops gradually to about 55 degrees in its winter. In compare between Cairo and Mombasa is warm all year round. Its temperature fluctuates very little, ranging from a low of 75 to 83 in March.

In conclusion, Cairo has hottest and coldest place. However temperature of Mombasa, Kenya is higher than the temperature of Cairo and Cap-Town.

Capital Punishment

The death punishment is a very controversial issue. Many people have different opinion about how a criminal should be punished. So I am going to write about the death punishment.

There are many different reasons for the death penalty. The following are the most frequently cited arguments for the death penalty. Some believe that those who kill deserve to die. When someone takes another person’s life they sacrifice their own right to live. Murder is one of the worst crimes a person can commit and it deserves the worst penalty.  The death penalty is the greatest deterrent to murder. If people know that they will be punished by death, they will be less likely to commit crimes and kill.

There are many different reasons against the death penalty which are just as strong. Two wrongs do not make a right. How many times have children heard that from their parents? Adult should follow their own advice. Murder is murder and it is wrong no matter what even if it is legal. In the civilized society that we live in, is the notion of an eye for an eye acceptable? Should the punishment for a rape, be another rape? Or for arson, should we burn down their house? One of the government’s jobs is to protect its citizen, but there are other ways to do it without killing.

In this essay there are many reasons for murders but, some people have circumstances to kill another person. However, that does not mean you have to kill someone if you have variation with someone. In my opinion, the capital punishment should be only for murder jail for the rest.

Table : underground rail systems

This table shows the information about underground train systems operating in five major cities compared by length and the passengers in 2010.

There are five cities in four different countries. London opened in 1863 and its  length is 394 km/s. Second, Paris opened in 1900 and its length is 199 km/s. Third came Tokyo, opened in 1927 and a length of 155 km/s. Kyoto was established in 1981 and its length is 11km/s. Boston opened in 2001 and has a length of 28 km/s. In 2010 Tokyo carried the most passengers, 192 million passengers. London carried less than Paris and Tokyo, around 77million passengers. Boston carried 50 million passengers, fewer passengers than London. Kyoto carried fewer passengers, around 45 million.

London and Paris are the oldest train systems but London has the longest underground train system. Kyoto has the shortest and smallest number of passengers. Tokyo has the highest number of passengers.

Table : Tornadoes and Hurricanes

This table shows the differences between hurricanes and tornadoes, two strong winds.

There are several features of the winds. The minimum wind speed of hurricanes is 74 miles per hour and 40 miles per hour for tornadoes. However the maximum wind speed for hurricanes is between 155 to 200 miles per hour, while tornadoes have got 250 to 300 miles per hour. The hurricane classification scale is Suffer, Simpson C1 to C5 while the tornadoes classification scale is the Fujita F0 to F5. Hurricanes can last one week on average, but tornadoes only last a few minutes. In addition hurricanes can usually be expected in advance, while tornadoes can’t. The hurricanes start over warm oceans but tornadoes start usually over land.

As you can see, the table shows the tornadoes cause more damage with maximum wind speed of 300 miles per hour. However hurricanes cause less damage with minimum wind speed 200 miles per hour.

Smoking is harmful to society

Most of the companies such as governments make restrictions to sell cigarettes over age. However, the government should be forbidden completely.

People thought there are positive sides of smoking. First, smoking certainly helps many people to relax. If someone upset or thinking too much, he has to smoke to reduce the pressure or a tension. Most of the people like to smoke when they are relaxing with friends. The governments thought the world make good profits from taxes in cigarettes. UN fortunately, the government obtained from taxes provides money which are use for building schools and hospitals. Billion of people over the world especially in poor countries without cigarettes it means without jobs.

These are lots of negative effects of smoke. Smoking has been dangerous for health. Cigarettes contains more than 4000 chemical substances’, therefore it causes for many dangerous disease such as heart attacks or cancer. Every day people are killed because of smoking but, also people need treatment in hospital for smoking. In the UAE children are smoking without even know his parents.

In my opinion, the world would be batter without cigarettes. I think people should smoke out of his house because to not affect his children. There are many thing to stop smoking such as sports running, swimming or playing football.

Reflection (3)

In semester two we concentrated on two types of writing. First describe graphs and second, problem and solution.

In the graph we started with pie charts, then two pie charts. There is an example of Valentine’s Day Gifts and the UK government. There are two examples of bar charts such as city growth and Top Ten Date Producing Countries. Hurricanes and Tornadoes was the last table chart.

We have done two writings in the problem and solution. The first one was Traffic in Abu Dhabi and the second one, problem and solution in obesity. We have to write four paragraphs. The first paragraph is introduction. The second is the problem, in addition examples and the third paragraph is solution. The last paragraph is conclusion and you have to choose the best solution in this argument.

Population growth in 1750 to 2150

The chart shows population growth in richer and poorer countries between 1750 and 2150

In 1750 the world population was less than 1 billion. The world population in less developed countries was more than more developed countries. From 1750 to 1950 world population increased in poor countries about twice as much as rich countries. Between 1950 and 2000 world population tripled from 2 billion to 6.1 billion. In 2050 world population will increase in less developed countries about 8 billion. In 2100 world population will be growing in less developed countries to around 9 billion. However it will not increase in more developed countries to more than 1 billion. In 2150 world population will increase more in less developed countries with a total of 10 billion.

As you can see in the line graph from 1750 to 2150 world population increases 9 times in less developed countries. However between 1750 to 2150 world populations will increase in more developed countries to around 1 billion.

Top 10 date-producing countries

The chart shows the amount of date production in tonnes for the top producers in 2001.

First, Egypt took the top spot with over one million tones. However Iran was close to Egypt with 0.9 million tonnes. Joined third were the UAE and Saudi Arabia with approximately 700 to 740 thousand tonnes. Iran and Pakistan had equal productions, about 650 thousand tones but, they were less than the UAE and Saudi Arabia. Next come Al Geri, who had lower than Pakistan and Iran, and it is production was nearly 400 thousand tonnes. Sudan and Libya are the smallest date producers in 2001.

In conclusion, as we can see, Egypt is the biggest date producer. Iran get second place and the lowest productions are from Libya and Sudan. The total of all these countries was around 6,400,000 tonnes.

Bar graph: population changes in large cities

The bar chart shows the populations of various world countries from 1950 until 2015. Overall, London and New York have the biggest population in 1950. However Lagos and Sao Paolo have the smallest populations in 1950.

Bombay and Tokyo will have the biggest populations, about 25 million in 2015. However from 1950 to 2015 London's population shows no dramatic increase or decrease just a very slow decline. In 1950 Tokyo was familiar to London about 5 million. Shanghai come third around 3 million. Mexico city, Cairo and Lagos has the smallest populations in 1950. Tokyo has increased to 25 million. Next comes Bombay and Mexico City, which increased to 16 million. Sao Paolo and New York have about 15 million.

The chart shows that only London shows a decline in population 1950-2015. New York shows a gradual rise. The growth in all the other cities has been dramatic.

Problem & Solution 1

In 1962 people were eating fish and dates. Also they were carrying heavy things and that is the reason they got muscles , strong and thin. However today most people are eating fast food and it will cause many diseases.

Over weight problems are the common reason that people eat a lot. When your body becomes obese it will cause many diseases like cholesterol or heart failure. If you don"t start to diet your body will be affected and you will get sick all the time and feel tired. For example : when you eat a lot you feel tired ,then you will sleep. Another problem is that people don't do exercise and that causes more weight. These things are the reasons the UAE people who eat a lot like Mc donalds and Dunkin Donuts get sugar. The health education by the Ministry of Health has shown recently that men of the UAE are about 67 percent and women 72 percent over weight.

Being over weight causes many problems. However there are many solutions to this. The first solution is go the doctor and tell him the problem. He will give you many solutions but, you need to follow the steps. You have a schedule to follow, like eating vegtables and meat.

In conclusion you have to reduce your weight and take exercise. There is another solution : go to the herbal medicine hospital and tell them the problem. They will help you. However you must do a lot of excersie and this will definitely reduce your weight

Abu Dhabi traffic congestion and parking problem

Nowadays most large cities around the world like Abu Dhabi suffer from traffic congestion and parking problems.

There are many reasons why we suffer traffic jams every day. One of these is the rapid growth of the population. As a result of this, the number of cars is increasing annually. A further point is that there are younger drivers today than in the past. The increase in the number of trucks and commercial vehicles also causes traffic congestion. These vehicles move very slowly, sometimes stopping to unload goods, and blocking traffic. Road works are a final major problem that can lead to streets being very crowded.

Traffic congestion also has many effects. One of the most important is parking problems. People find it difficult to park their cars, especially in the city center.  There are also more accidents, because people become frustrated or angry due to the traffic jams. Finally, pollution in the city center worsens as a result of car emissions, and the city becomes a less attractive place to live. Shops are forced to close in the city center and have to relocate to malls or to the outskirts of the city, where parking is available.

There are many solutions for these problems,The first solution the government must do is some maintenance to enlarge roads. Second solution they have to build bridges between Abu Dhabi and other Emirates. The last solution is to expand the train all over the principality.

In conclusion, although Abu Dhabi has good roads and modern infrastructure, it is suffering from traffic problems. There is no simple solution to this problem because it has many causes, but the effects are damaging both the city and the people who live there. The government should try to remedy this problem.
